Oregon Tech Recruitment Campaign
Minimalist Kinetic Typography Commercial
This project explores how typography and disciplined motion design can carry an entire narrative without relying on imagery or complex graphics. The commercial was developed as a recruitment piece for Oregon Institute of Technology, highlighting the institution’s identity as Oregon’s only polytechnic university.
The core concept visualizes the broken promise between college and career. The film opens on a stark black screen where the words “COLLEGE” and “CAREER” are connected by a white arrow. The arrow fractures at its center, symbolizing the growing disconnect between traditional education and real-world outcomes. From that moment, the visual language transitions from monochrome tension into Oregon Tech’s navy and gold, representing a solution-driven educational model.
Design Direction
The design philosophy blends several visual traditions:
Saul Bass title sequences – bold typography, strong geometry, and narrative minimalism
Apple’s “Think Different” era advertising – restrained visuals where typography carries the message
Adult Swim bump aesthetics – confident use of empty space and simple text statements
The goal was to create a piece that feels architectural and engineered rather than promotional.
Typography
The animation uses bold grotesk typefaces such as Helvetica Neue, GT America, and Neue Haas Grotesk set in extra-bold all caps. Large-scale text dominates the frame, using generous negative space to create clarity and impact.
Motion Philosophy
Every transition follows a mechanical, engineered rhythm, inspired by the idea of “NASA meets Bauhaus.”
There are no decorative effects, rotations, or exaggerated animation curves—discipline and timing drive the visual impact.

Outcome
The finished piece functions as a cinematic typography-driven recruitment spot, designed for broadcast and streaming placements. By relying on clarity, pacing, and typographic confidence, the video communicates Oregon Tech’s message: practical education that leads directly to real careers.
